The food drives held each fall on campus have taken on additional importance this year as members of the �鶹��ý community face uncertainty over whether federally funded food assistance will continue, and there are numerous ways for faculty and staff to help.

Summer 2025: What’s Open, What’s Closed

Summer brings sunshine, good vibes and the seasonal question: What’s open on campus? Here’s your guide to what’s open and closed this summer.

Several locations across campus will offer weekday food and coffee services, with adjusted seasonal hours. Make sure to check each specific location’s website for the most updated hours and menus.

Scooters and Bikes: Charge Off Campus, Lock Up Outdoors

Transportation Services and other campus partners are providing a reminder that bikes, scooters and other wheeled devices cannot be ridden, charged or stored indoors.

Those devices — both electric and non-electric — are everywhere on campus, but this quarter has seen a significant uptick in people riding and charging transportation devices indoors, posing safety concerns.

Parking Rate Increase Set for Sept. 1

Parking rates on campus will increase effective Sept. 1, with most drivers seeing a 50 cent increase per day, Transportation Services announced last week.

The increases will “ensure that Transportation Services meets its obligation to maintain safe and sustainable infrastructure used by drivers, cyclists and pedestrians,” the office says on its website. Transportation Services added that the increases will help address deferred maintenance.

James N. Sanchirico and James E. Wilen are the recipients of the 2023 Publication of Enduring Quality Award from the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists. The award presentation took place during the association’s summer conference in Portland, Maine.

You may like ParkMobile as an alternative to annual parking permits — with ParkMobile, we pay (via the app or online) only on the days we drive to campus — but you probably don’t like it so much when you forget to pay and get slapped with a $55 citation.

Parking Rates Increasing Sept. 1

Daily parking rates are increasing on the Davis campus by amounts ranging from 25 cents to a dollar, effective Thursday (Sept. 1), Transportation Services announced earlier this month.

Fewer ‘Orchard’ Streets, More ‘Blue Ridge’

Confused about all the “Orchard”-named streets in the northwest corner of the central campus? You’re not alone, Transportation Services said recently in announcing a name change for Orchard Road between Orchard Park Drive on the west and La Rue Road on the east.

As of July 1, this section of road is called Blue Ridge Road — a change made, in part, to ease the name confusion. We’ll talk more about the name in a little bit.

Transportation Services is adapting the campus parking system to fit better in a world where employees and students come to campus only sporadically, swapping out long-term permits for daily fees.

The daily rates work out to be roughly the same, on a monthly basis, as what Transportation Services previously charged for short-term permits.
