<p>The Memorial Union may be closed, but the military personnel for whom it stands in tribute are not forgotten.</p>
<p>The building, honoring Aggies who gave their lives in military service, would normally host <a href="/news/memorial-day-ceremony">Âé¶¹´«Ã½â€™ annual Memorial Day Ceremony</a> this Thursday (May 21) in advance of next week’s holiday. <p>Maj. Lawrence Phillips died in the Philippines. Capt. John Barovetto died in Vietnam. Lt. Col. Mark Taylor died in Iraq. They are among the 135 Gold Star Aggies — casualties of war — remembered Thursday (May 26) at Âé¶¹´«Ã½â€™ annual Memorial Day Ceremony.</p>
<p>Dozens of people took chairs or stood for the sun-drenched, late afternoon ceremony on the Memorial Union’s South Patio. <p>Army veteran and law school student Nick Chase, in his keynote address Thursday (May 26) at Âé¶¹´«Ã½â€™ annual Memorial Day Ceremony, will relate some of the moving stories from the university’s <em>Golden Memory Book</em> of fallen Aggies and tell a moving story of his own, from when he was a young officer in Afghanistan.</p>
<p>The ceremony, open to all, runs from 5 to 5:30 p.m. on the South Patio of the <a href="http://campusmap.ucdavis.edu/?b=104">Memorial Union</a> — a building that stands in tribute to our fallen Aggies. <p>One-hundred-thirty-five American flags will be posted on the Quad on Thursday (May 26), one for each Aggie war casualty, as the campus gathers for its annual Memorial Day Ceremony.</p>
<p>The ceremony, of course, will take place at the Memorial Union — which stands in tribute to our fallen Aggies.
