He took up his post in October and since then has been forming relationships with departments across the campus — reviewing and preparing action plans with fire, police, �鶹��ý Health and more.

Eric Kvigne and Jim Patterson, two familiar faces in Safety Services, took up their posts as permanent appointees this month after holding the jobs on an interim basis.

NEWS BRIEFS: Stokes named emergency manager

Clement Stokes is the campus’s new director of emergency management and mission continuity. He previously served as director of emergency management at Northwestern University for seven years.

Part of the Safety Services unit, he will work closely with the Event and Crisis Management Team, chaired by the chancellor and provost, as well as emergency officials throughout the region.

NEWS BRIEFS: Help Harvest a Field, Help Yolo Food Bank

Volunteers are being sought to help with a campus harvest that will benefit the Yolo Food Bank. The harvest is scheduled from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday (Jan. 29) in a student-planted, educational-use field just west of the Student Farm.

The project is being organized by the �鶹��ý Arboretum and Public Garden’s Learning by Leading team, comprising student interns in edible landscaping.

Bring on the rain: Campus ready for El Niño

To weather the big rains and high winds of what is anticipated to be a strong El Niño, �鶹��ý is preparing — from removing dead tree branches to clearing sediment from drainpipes.

And the campus needs your help, too.

"We need help on campus with eyes," said Cynthia Kranc, director of maintenance services in Facilities Management. "We can't be everywhere. We rely on our campus associates to let us know where there are problems."
